Experience and Growth
By: Dana Greaves
Before being acceped into the master's program at Michigan State University, I developed goals that I wanted to achieve in teaching. Overall, I wanted to become a teacher who had the capability of using different teaching styles to meet the needs of every learner in my classroom, and a teacher who was able to incorporate technology into my classroom. I wanted to gain the knowledge necessary to be a better teacher everyday, learning through my experiences and the experiences of my colleagues in the program. The amount of knowledge I gained through this program was exponential. I was given excellent feedback, along with a large amount of resources to pull from to increase the learning in my classroom.
Throughout the program, I was pushed as a learner to integrate new technologies that I wasn't familiar with into projects and activities that I could use with the students in my classroom. I had never heard of most of the technologies that I was urged to use and play around with. As exciting as it was for me to learn, I think that my students were the ones who benefitted the most. They got to experience learning in new ways; from Prezi presentations to simply using my Web cam to make science commercials.
Another goal that I believe I have achieved is to continue to be a lifelong learner. I never want to stop learning, and this program showed me that even if I am not learning in a classroom setting, that I can be investigating and learning about new technologies and exposing other teachers to the creative things they can do with technology.
I think that overall, my goals will continue to remain the same. I want to push myself to be the best teacher I can be everyday. I will make progress to be a lifelong learner, whether in a classroom, learning from other, or learning through my own experiences. I cannot wait to continue to grow as a teacher in the future.
